An average household can save up to $225 in energy bills by using A19 LED light bulbs. This is because LEDs use a light-emitting diode which consumes much less energy than traditional incandescent bulbs.

However, finding the best option in line with modern living can be challenging if you’re in the market for a new A19 LED light bulb.

In this article, I’ll discuss the best A19 LED light bulbs currently available. Besides being energy-efficient to help reduce energy bills, these bulbs have been proven to really work with households.

There are some affiliate links below, which help support the blog and the team here. The price is no different if you choose to use the links or not. So with that, read on to find the best A19 LED light bulbs!

A19 styles are also known as just the “regular bulbs” we all know and have in our house.

How to Interpret Bulb Language (Labels)

When I owned my own energy-efficient lighting e-commerce business in a previous life, we’d be helping customers understand the ever-confusing language and labeling of LED bulbs.

For A19 bulbs (AKA regular bulbs in our house), there’s a few key things to know about the labeling:

Wattage Labeling – Key Facts to Know

LED wattage for these kinds of bulbs are very low. The actual wattage used will be about 10 watts or less. Watts also means watts used per hour. So, if your bulb uses 10 watts per hour, and it’s on for 100 hours, it uses 1 kilowatt (kWh – the number that shows up on our utility bill). The calculation is:

10 watt x 100 hours = 1,000 watts = 1kWh

The average kWh rate in the USA is about 14-15 cents or so.

In layman’s terms, if you have this LED bulb on for 100 hours, it’ll cost you 15 cents.

When you see labeling and product titles like “40 Watt” or “60 Watt” for LED bulbs, that’s not the actual wattage used (at least for these small of bulbs). They are labeled this way to be wattage-equivalent because many people are typing in “40 watt bulb” or “60 watt bulb” to match their own burned out old-technology incandescent bulbs.

LED’s actually save about 80-90%+ vs. their incandescent counterpart. So for quick wattage labeling purposes:

  • A 40 watt labeled A19 LED bulb actually uses around 6 to 8 watts.
  • A 60 watt labeled A19 LED bulb actually uses around 8 to 12 watts or so.

The efficiencies of these bulbs have jumped around a bit, but that’s the summation of it.

Kelvin Temperature: Pick The Correct Color Output

It’s easy to get confused on the actual color output of these bulbs also, if you don’t know how to pick the right ones. Even though I was/am in the energy efficient lighting industry for 10+ years, I still make the same mistake myself sometimes.

Have you ever bought new light bulbs, only to discover a color mismatch between your new and old ones? It can look like a rainbow sometimes.

For this reason, knowing what the correct Kelvin temperature you want is key. This is also known as color temperature in the industry.

You’ll see unclear terms like “warm white”, “cool white” and similar terms on the boxes of these A19/regular light bulbs. What the heck do these mean?

The tricky thing is that different lighting technologies (like incandescent, LED, CFL), manufacturers, and different production runs of bulbs will create different-looking color outputs.

For starters, it’s good to know what color output you want for your space. It’s really a personally preference, but in general, warmer white or warmer orange-yellow is preferred for residential areas:

a modern looking graphic diagram of orange colors to white and bluish on the range, indicating different Kelvin color temperatures in lighting
A typical Kelvin (color) temperature chart. You’ll want to match your bulbs to emit the color you want for your particular space in your house or business.

Another safe bet is to reorder from the same manufacturer you bought last time, if you have burned out LED’s in particular.

As a quick reference:

  • Go with 2700K to 3000K for a more warm, orange/yellow light.
  • Go with 3500 to 4100K for a more white light with a yellow tint to it.
  • Go with 5000K if you want a pure white color output (also known as daylight).
  • If you go past 5500K to 6000K, the light starts to look more blue (but it’ll also be the brightest output for the wattage used).

I hope those few tips helps before you go shopping. But without further ado, here are our top A19 regular bulbs to buy today:
